The Tree of Light

SHINING BRIGHT THIS CHRISTMAS

 The Tree of Light

The Big Switch On:

Saturday 15th November 2025 at 5.15pm

Compered by the BBC’s Jon Smith with entertainment from 4pm by the Salvation Army Band  followed by the Gloucester Dementia Choir, the St Benedict Choir and the Gloucestershire Youth Wind Orchestra and the arrival of the City’s Children’s Lantern Procession.  The Tree of Light countdown will start at 5:35, with the City Mayor doing the honour,  before the GYWO conclude the ceremony.

Every November and December, The Rotary Tree of Light’s fabulous lights  shine brightly in Kings Square, Gloucester until after Christmas, on 12th Night.

First launched in 2011, the huge tree adorned with thousands of lights has raised £100,000 for many charities, mainly local but also with wider support for health and young peoples’ charities

At our spectacular switch-on, the City’s Mayor, Father Christmas, the President of the Rotary Club of Gloucester, and others, were all introduced by Jon Smith, Breakfast Show host at BBC Radio Gloucestershire.

Please support the Tree of Light by leaving a message and making a small donation to help us help others. Every penny counts and goes directly to support our local causes.

If you are interested in joining the Worldwide fellowship of Rotarians, please email our Membership team at info@treeoflight.co.uk and we’ll get back to you.

The Tree of Light is the perfect way this Christmas, after such a difficult period, to remember a loved one, to wish someone good luck for the New Year or just to send a message out to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, whilst raising money for our local Gloucestershire charities

What does the Rotary Tree of Light mean to you…?

‘It’s like doing something for the person that is not there anymore’. It shows that they are not forgotten’.

‘It is like sharing a moment with them. Like sharing a memory of a time gone by’.

‘It is about saying you still love them. It helps me to feel they are still part of my Christmas’.

‘It says that I have not forgotten those who have been part of my life. It is a symbol of my love’.

Gloucester’s Spectacular Tree!
